In late May, the Mississippi-based CFA launched www.safecatfish.com, which questionis the integrity of catfish and pangasius imported from Vietnam. The Web site calls  the Mekong Delta “polluted and contaminated” and features a report that claims to reveal the “unsanitary” conditions under which pangasius are farmed.

VASEP is calling on the organization to retract  what it says is false information.

VASEP points out that Vietnamese farmers no longer raise pangasius in floating cages in the Mekong River but in ponds that meet SQF1000 and other international standards for stringent hygiene and safety assurance.

The group also says more and more pangasius farms in the country have been granted Global GAP certifications, ensuring the cleanest and safest farming conditions.
